How to become a player/member of Lockyer Valley Celtic Pipe Band

Here at LVCPB we are always looking for new learners to become part of our tight knit team. We pride ourselves on creating competent players who strive to be the best they can. Below is a step by step process in how you can become a playing member. Remember we are always wanting non-playing members too.

  1. Contact us via out Contact Page or skip directly to step 2;

  2. Come to a band practice night and meet the team;

  3. Buy a practice chanter & print the tutor book;

  4. Practice, practice, practice - depending on how committed the student is to learning the bagpipes it can generally take anywhere from  a few weeks to 6 months;

  5. Start playing the goose - once you been deemed competent on the practice chanter, you are then allowed to start playing what is called a "goose". The goose is basically a plastic set of bagpipes.

  6. Start playing on the bagpipes - Once competent on the goose you can then move to a full set of bagpipes. The band has loan bagpipes that you can borrow for a period of time until you buy your own.

  7. Become a financial member - generally at this stage it is a good idea to become a financial and voting member. You can do this by submitting a Membership Form to a meeting and then paying your dues.

  8. The piping world is now yours to conquer! - The possibilities when you are competent on a set of bagpipes is endless and LVCPB will always be there for you to guide you in the right path.
